Looks for less

This popped up in my inbox this morning from whowhatweardaily.com

While definitely inspirational, most of the items, save the coral nail polish and green American Apparel clutch, are outrageously expensive. I was inspired to find comparable items but at a WAY better price point.
  • That blue blouse is by Equipment and costs 187$!! The other day I had breakfast with my friend Alyssa and she was wearing a really similar blouse from American Apparel.

They have them in a bunch of colours, only 48$. http://store.americanapparel.ca/rsacl302.html?cid=930
  • Whenever I'm looking for inexpensive accessories I always look at Forever 21. They have loads of "tribal" stuff at the moment.  p.s. the necklace they put in the pic above is 170$

Both of these are only 8.80$
  • Those sunglasses remind me a whole lot of my beloved A.J. Morgan Feline glasses.

Only 14.99!! Compared to 158$. p.s. I've ordered from that site twice and they're great.
  • That lather jacket shown is 1095$. Seriously! There are some really cute options at Zara right now.

That's the jacket that I bought a couple of months ago. Real leather for only 139$!!!

Or faux leather for 99$. (the details on this one are amazing)  http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/ca/en/zara-S2011/61135/198152/ROUND%2BNECK%2BJACKET
p.s. in case you were wondering the coral nail polish is Revlon's "Siren" and you can see those AA bags at http://store.americanapparel.ca/rsalh500m.html?cid=49
Shop smart!

Clean Slate

I will warn you now that while this is a hair post, this is not by any means a GLAMOROUS one. While lacking the usual glitz and glam of my usual posts (snarf) I actually read about this on another blog and found it to be really helpful so prepare to LEARN people.
A long time ago I read a post (http://schoee.blogspot.com/2009/08/grease-is-word.html) on Zoella's blog about product buildup. Have you ever washed your hair and blowdried it and literally immediately after you felt like you had gross, greasy roots? That's product buildup.
While my situation wasn't nearly that dire I really felt like my hair was kind of heavy and limp lately so I picked up Neutrogena's Anti-Residue Shampoo.

Basically this stuff takes out all the leftover conditioners, serums, sprays and whatever else you have managed to put in your hair lately and allows your products to work better after. I washed my hair with this and immediately felt how clean and light it was. While I didn't use any conditioner after, I would probably suggest you put a bit in your ends if you have hair that's prone to knotting. Style your hair as usual and enjoy it's glorious airy lightness (killed that description).

I have these (p)leather shorts too!

We nailed it.

Hitting the gym in full makeup

I've been watching one of those damned Kardashian shows lately (yeah I said it) and every time they're at the gym or the grocery store or just waking up or WHATEVER they're fully contoured with false lashes and the whole shebang. Anyways I am not that awesome but this makeup tutorial kills for a going out look. Enjoy ^_^

Red Rum

As I mentioned in my last post, I've really been seeing red lately. I think I've always had kind of a love-hate relationship with the colour because my mom always used to dress me in red as a kid but right now I am totally on board. Clearly I'm not the only one.

Pub Quiz

Every Tuesday we make our way over to Honey's for trivia night, hence regular Wednesday "going out" outfit posts. I say going out very loosely, as Honey's is potentially the most casual bar. You can show up in the embarrassing outfit you rolled to work in not expecting to see anyone before you got your uniform on (yeah I wear a uniform! shit!) and no one would bat an eyelash. I have been all about red these last few weeks.

I think I got really into my 70s vibe. If I extended my right arm with a pointed finger, John Travolta would be all up in my shit.

Thrifted red blouse, Gap jeans (I think the cut is called sexy boot), old belt that I stole from my mom, Target wedged sandals
p.s. I wish I made this

Domestic Goddess

Hello little muffins! I went on a quick trip to Ottawa this weekend with mi madre and was feeling rather boring and uninspired when I got back yesterday but fear not, I'm back in action.
Whenever the in-betweeny seasons come around, I have a tendency of rotating between about a million pairs of shoes. You know, it's cold, then hot, then rainy, then muddy and then with going out shoes, they kind of end up all over the place, leading my boyfriend to trip over them on his way out the door and threaten to burn them. You know how it is.

I was at Wal-Mart today and I spotted this shoe rack that actually looked like someone spent 10 seconds thinking about its design aesthetic. Sweet!

Whenever I do something like this my mom praises me and calls me a domestic goddess, like she's genuinely impressed I did something around my house. Listen guys, I get shit done.
My entrance now

What else did I get?

Sour bug candies, Wet n Wild eyeshadow in creme brulee, exfoliating clarisonic rip-off thingy (the white thing) (so excited about this), St-Ives Apricot cleanser and Maybelline's one by one mascara.
p.s. You don't need to actually point out that I said I was feeling boring and then I brought you a post about a shoe rack.  I know. Point taken.

Pucker

I've been wanting to do an every day lipstick post for a long time now because I feel like a lot of people think that lipstick is not casual or "too much" for normal life, which really isn't true! I think I've complained before about how hard it is to take true-to-life makeup pictures so after trying many times, I kind of went a different route.

So I've got 4 lipsticks and 2 glosses here, all of which can pretty much be mixed and matched.
Creme D'Nude (17.50$) by MAC is an amazing nude lipstick. The cremesheen formula (probably the most moisturizing of their regular lipsticks) is very comfortable to wear and I think this is a very flattering nude for people with light to medium-light skintones. It's one of those lipsticks that everyone talks about.
Airy fairy by Rimmel (~6$) is a slightly pinky beige colour with gold flecks. If you think nude is too light or washed out for you, this is a great alternative. This is a "my lips but better" colour for me.
Darling by Covergirl (~9$) is pinker than Airy Fairy and more cold-toned I would say. A nice way to wear pink day to day without looking too shocking.
Impressive by MAC (17.50$) is a sheen supreme lipstick. On me it's like a darkened nude basically, with warm undertones. This is the only one that I don't layer up with lip gloss because it's so glossy already.
Greek Holiday is a NARS lipgloss, which are insanely expensive. Like I've said before, I don't really believe in expensive lip glosses. I think you can find nice formulas at drug stores. This is a nice colour though. It's kind of a gold-toned nude. I'll wear this over Creme d'Nude for a full-on nude lip or over one of the pinker lipsticks to tone them down. (p.s. Revlon's colorburst lipgloss in gold dust looks almost the same to me)
Glass Confusion (I still can't figure out why the hell they would call it that) is a Wet n' Wild lipgloss. They're like 3$ and I actually really love the texture of these. I'll wear this over Creme d'Nude to warm it up or over the pink lipsticks.

See? these don't turn out so well. But still, this is Creme d'Nude with Glass Confusion on top.

Airy Fairy with Glass Confusion on top.
Don't be scared of lipstick! It's fun and really polishes off your look in an un-obvious way. People will be like "wow, that girl looks like she has her shit together, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is".

Welcome to Hello Kitty Nightmare

Hello new and old friends!
I am debating moving my blog over from http://hellokittynightmare.tumblr.com/ so I'm going to post on both sites for a while until I make a decision. This blog will be especially focused on fashion, beauty, and other things that I find cute/noteworthy.
